20th, 2008 - Pleasant Valley
Well, our intrepid Tour Amateurs made their first – and most likely last – trip to Medina County’s Pleasant Valley. Now, this layout has the potential to be one of Northeast Ohio’s truly fine courses, but never quite lives up to its possibilities. Of course, as you can see from the scoring below, it was also more course than most of us could handle, so that might color one’s perspective somewhat. We did have a beautiful sunny day and there are far worse ways to spend a Saturday morning, so I guess it’s best to cut the course some slack.
As mentioned above, no one exactly lit the place up, with the Low Net round being a 1-under 71 by our current tour leader, Mark Loan. Second place points went to Jeff Liedel, whose 86 was also the low gross score, and the Commissioner, with a pair of Net 74’s – nothing to write home about. Rob Cooperider’s Net 75 earned him third place honors. Also in the Low Gross category, Andy Liedel finished a shot behind big brother Jeff with an 87, while Jay Liedel and the Commish turned in a pair of 90’s. It was a tough day for your favorite amateurs!
In the race for the coveted Smitty Tour Cheeseboard, Mark Loan’s third first-place finish has him well out in front with two events to go. He sits 22 points ahead of our defending champion Andy Liedel and 30 up on the pair of Jeff Liedel and Matt Willbond. Dropping our lowest number tightens the race up a might, with Matt moving just ahead of the Drewmeister for second place. With just an October 25th visit to Creekwood and our annual Tour Championship once again scheduled for Brentwood on November 8th, it’s gonna be a real challenge to catch the leader, but we have seen stranger things happen in prior years. Stay tuned.
